About the author (email me)
I have a lifelong passion for comics, and I felt in love with many characters, like Dilbert, Calvin & Hobbes, Peanuts, etc. I was disappointed to discover how badly designed are their websites, and I decided to find alternative ways to access them.
I originally developed WinBert, largely inspired by iBert, a nice, Mac-only tool: then I decided to extend it in order to manage more comics, so WinComics was born. It's running smoothly on my PCs and on several friends' machines since ages, but never gained much popularity due to lack of visibility.
When I started exploring Dashboard widgets, it was natural to reuse the same code, and freeComics became available: I was really surprised by the effect of being listed on Apple downloads page, the widget has been downloaded hundred of times in a couple of days, and it was only the beginning.
I was so lucky that my next widget, Mighty Marvel Wallpapers, was picked by the staff on May 10th, 2008, becoming an immediate success: I had to create a new site to manage the incredible number of downloads!
freeComics widget plans for the future: I have been asked to make the comic list configurable or selectable, in order to narrow it down. I know I have to improve the management of Sunday comics, whose large size damages the user interface (resizing widgets is a pain). I also want to add more comics, not only strips but also vignettes (e.g. Marmaduke).
I dream about making a version of freeComics for iPhone or iPod Touch.
Personal plans for the future: spend a lot of time with my kids and my dog in the open air.
This site is dedicated to my family and friends, always supporting my efforts!
